Bruins forward Milan Lucic pleaded not guilty to assaulting his wife, Brittany, after being arrested Saturday following an alleged domestic violence incident, according to the Associated Press.

He was then released on personal recognizance Tuesday.

Lucic, 35, was arrested on one count of assault and battery of a family member, which carries a maximum penalty of 2 ½ years in jail, per AP.

Lucic’s wife claims he became violent after returning home after a night out, and he had been drinking, according to a police report obtained by Boston.com.

Lucic could not find his phone and then yelled at Brittany because he believed she had hidden it from him.

“The victim stated that she did not have his cell phone and did not know where it was located,” police wrote, per Boston.com. “She stated that she attempted to walk away from her husband, and stated that the suspect grabbed her by her hair and pulled her backwards. She stated that in doing so, the suspect stated to her that she was not going anywhere.”

Brittany did not seek medical help and told police that he had not tried to strangle her, although one officer said she had redness on her chest, per the report.

The Bruins forward allegedly appeared intoxicated when speaking to police.

The police found a broken lamp and what was believed to be glass shards in the bathroom, and he was taken into custody without any issues.

“He stated to officers that nothing had happened and did not attempt to provide any explanation,” police wrote in the report, per Boston.com.

The Bruins, who lead the NHL with 29 points, announced Saturday that Lucic was taking an indefinite leave of absence.

Lucic has spent 17 seasons in the NHL, including nine with the Bruins. He re-signed with the team this offseason after four years with the Flames.

He’s appeared in four games this season and has two points.

“The Boston Bruins are aware of the situation involving Milan Lucic Friday evening. Milan is taking an indefinite leave of absence from the team,” the Bruins said in a statement Saturday. “The organization takes these matters very seriously, and we will work with the Lucic family to provide any support and assistance they may need. We will have no further comment at this time.”

A pretrial hearing is now set for Jan. 19, and Lucic is prohibited from abusing his wife and consuming alcohol, per AP.
